Automotive Cables

Single conductor hookup wire and battery cables for the auto industry fall into two major categories:

SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) cable. This includes familiar call-outs like TXL, GXL, GPT, and TWP.

ISO (International Standards Organization cable, Standrad 6722. This group includes cables by many different names depending on the manufacturer, but it is commonly referred to as FLRY or FLR2X wire, a designation originally used by German automakers.

The two cables are similar and function in similar applications, but test standards vary, and so some markets are almost all ISO 6722 cable. On-road vehicle markets use this. Other markets continue to use the traditional SAE cables, and these are typically commercial vehcle, agricultual, or off-road vehicles. The American market purchases both types now.
