Automotive Cables

Single conductor hookup wire and battery cables for the auto industry fall into two major categories:

SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) cable. This includes familiar call-outs like TXL, GXL, GPT, and TWP.

ISO (International Standards Organization) cable, Standrad 6722. This group includes cables by many different names depending on the manufacturer, but it is commonly referred to as FLRY or FLR2X wire, a designation originally used by German automakers.

The two cables are similar in appearance and performance, but test standards vary. On-road vehicle markets primarily use the ISO standard. Other markets continue to use the traditional SAE cables, and these are typically commercial vehcle, agricultual, or off-road vehicles. The American market purchases both types now.
